SATC 2: the movie

May 26, 2010

At the stroke of midnight, hundreds of thousands of women across the country will settle into their seats, heels sticking to the candy strewn floor, Cosmo buzz slowly starting to wear off.

I will not be among these women — only because we’ve decided to participate in wine night tonight and go see it tomorrow night after we have a few Cosmos of our own (just because).

I am a huge fan of Sex and the City.  The TV show is probably my favorite series of all time.  I’m one of those poor suckers who can see just 35 seconds of an episode and go through all of the notable sex partners and outfits that will show up over the next 22 minutes.  I can watch any episode over and over, and I really think that anything in life can be resolved when Carrie’s voiceover analyzes the hell out of it – Are women really _______?  Are all men _______? They’ve dealt with pretty much every kind of relationship, bedroom, or closet issue, and I feel like a woman with a few pairs of Manolos of my own when I sit down and listen to their banter, witty or not.

Now, I know that not everyone has fallen under the Fab Four’s spell.  You may find them slutty, crazy dressers, far too old for such shenanigans, or just plain boring.  But I completely disagree.  They’ve gotten me through the past 7 years of my life (don’t let my mom know I’ve been watching them for that long.  She still can’t handle it) and I don’t plan on turning my back on them yet.  No matter how bad the first movie was (and yes, it was bad but I still own it) and how awful this second one will be (I’ve heard some not good things), I will faithfully support my ladies.  I’ll get teary when Big is an asshole and avert my eyes when Miranda and Steve have a steamy sex scene.

Where do you stand on SATC?  And who are you – Carrie, Miranda, Charlotte, or Samantha?

Don’t make fun of me – everyone secretly thinks of herself as a character.  I’m totally a Carrie.  I know everyone says that, but seriously, I am.

Oh, and seriously, DON’T buy the stupid merchandise that they have out.  It’s tacky.

I have the entire DVD collection of SATC. Someone gave it to me as a gift. I have no idea why, maybe because Carrie is a journalist and I’m an aspiring one? Haha, I admit, I’m one of those people who think that they are too old, too horny, too crazy. But I do like their sense of fashion. And they can be pretty witty, I’ll give them that.

I have the huge pink book of all the seasons, and can identify all the episodes too. My bestie and I are going to a matinee tomorrow, and I can’t wait :) I’m absolutely a Charlotte- my friends make fun of my naivite and Martha-Stewartness all the time, but I love her!!

Agh, I’m addicted. I can watch it for hours without stopping for air. I try to take the whole thing as a comical allegory over something I should emulate (I don’t really want to be clubbing in my 40s, but I’m all for female empowerment and independence).

Um…I suppose I self-identify as a blend? But probably more towards the Carrie side, with a strong Samantha rising because I gots the swag.

Eeeeek!!!!!!!!! I am soooo very excited for the SATC 2 premiere. Like you, I can identify each and every episode after hearing just one or two lines!

I actually adored the last movie, just because I adore my four girls so much.
I’d have to say i’m a bit Carrie-esque….but my mom thinks i’m a total Charlotte! It’s the whole sorority/preppy/uber-organized/put-together (?) type of thing, i’m guessing!? hahaha….i’m also obsessed with Samantha and her career–i’d love to be a powerful PR agent! I WANT that post-grad! Oooh, it’d be so fun!

Have a great night with your girls! xoxoxo

I think I’m a Carrie. I don’t know if I’ll end up seeing it in theaters – I saw the first one last year with Ari’s entire family and everyone else ended up bashing it in the car afterward- but I want to. I LOVE watching the reruns on tv.

i loved the first Sex & The City movie (omg, the part where Big didn’t show up at the church and Carrie runs out of the limo and starts hitting him with her bouquet, it made me tear up!! so intense), even though i never got super into the series – i’ve started liking it more now and watching reruns. i think i was a wee bit too young when it was in its prime ;D anyways, yes, i can’t WAIT to see SATC #2! what more could possibly happen to them? and the clothes! i love Carrie’s style. i’m probably somewhat of a Charlotte/Carrie hybrid.

    lots of love!
