summer solstice

June 21, 2010

Due to the horrible schedule gods, I only have one day off a week.  This month, it falls on a Monday, and while it didn’t go as planned, I’m not complaining about the way it all transpired.

I fell asleep around midnight last night and woke up around 10:45 this morning.  This meant that while I was actually rested for the first time in a week, I was also not going to make it to the free yoga class in Schenley Park that I was looking forward to all weekend.  I took this free time to make a solid breakfast, and then I headed over to Flagstaff hill to get a little color (I’ve been steadily losing my tan over the past few weeks that I’ve been stuck inside the Museum) and to spend some quality time with the July 2010 issue of Vogue.

The magazine was a total impulse purchase, but the Ewan McGregor and Natalia Vodianova shoot made it a valid buy.

The first day of summer wouldn’t be complete without some ripe strawberries and frozen yogurt, drizzled with chocolate sauce and topped with a dollop of Cool Whip.  That’s right – I sometimes buy this high fructose-laden stuff.  I can’t help it.  It tastes like crack in the very best way.

As much as I’d like to enjoy today’s long hours of sunlight, I’ve got a hot date with ABC and The Bachelorette at 8.

How did you spend the first day of summer?

Oooh Vogue. I can never get enough of a good magazine, some sunlight and maybe a refreshing (or comforting, in the more colder months) drink to go alongside!

That dessert sounds PHENOM and oh so creative. Sometimes whip cream is just a must…plus, you balanced it out with some fruit! ;)

I just dominated a bowl of home-made gauc and corn tortilla chips, got a facial this morning and plan on watching the bachelorette tonight, with my mama…while eating her amazing tofu dish!

That photo shoot was done extremely well. I adore it when photographers use black and white, not only that, but they also decided to make the theme kind of retro — which I also like a lot.

Your day sounded kind of like mine. The first day of summer unfortunately felt like another day, but nonetheless, it’s now officially summer, which means I now have the perfect excuss to entertain, relax, and vacation!

Your strawberries and whipped cream photograph was also stunning.

My dad cancelled my subscription to Vogue when I went to college, and those gorgeous pictures make me nostalgic for it. I spent my first day of summer babysitting- not much time to enjoy the gorgeous weather :(

I saw the spread while I was getting my hair cut! LOVED it. So chic!

I spent the first day of summer in Coney Island! It was perfect.

I didn’t know it was Solstice! No wonder the day seemed so much longer. I was in Singapore the whole time, so the day is short compared to the summers in Korea or America, even though it is summer all year long. Your day sounds perfect. I’m not much of a Vogue reader, so mine would probably be a cooking magazine. ;-)
