color conundrum

June 11, 2011

last night I tried to dye my hair.  I had wanted it to turn a nice medium golden brown (as John Frieda promised), and then I was going to take it up a few levels with highlights.  I had done it 2 months ago, and it was time to do it again.

I’m not sure what exactly I did wrong – I may have mixed it incorrectly, or I left it in for a few minutes too long – but my hair is now a deep, awful brownish purple. it is not exactly what I had in mind.  I spent the day at work feeling very self-conscious about my new hue, and after a few minutes spent Googling ‘how to fix too dark hair color’ I came to the conclusion that I needed professional help.  I washed it 3 times with clarifying shampoo this afternoon, and I don’t think my feeble efforts did any good.

I have a 9 am emergency hair consultation and coloring appointment tomorrow morning.  I’ve been wanting to go back to my roots and let my natural light brown color and sun-streaked highlights come through.  I’m going for a look that says I spent the day sailing on Lake Champlain and now I’m going to drink wine and watch the fireflies come out.  I just hope I can convey that to my colorist.
