a grand day out via my iPhone

August 5, 2011

my dad and my brother are spending the week camping with the Boy Scouts on Martha’s Vineyard, so my mom, sister, and I decided to go spend some quality girl time up in Canada.  while the male members of our family were out clamming, improving nature trails, and cooking over a campfire, we had a few adventures of our own.

we left a bit later than we wanted this morning, and then my mom drove south for a bit instead of north.  we ended up turning around in a parking lot that had moose tracks dividing the parking spaces.  maybe it’s a Vermont thing.  anyway, we eventually found our way through northern Vermont and the strange Canadian farm country just south of Montreal.  we ended up pulling off the interstate to eat and happened upon a great little Italian chain, Pacini.  we shared a demi-pitcher of sangria and enjoyed their bread bar — you got to toast your own piece of bread on an open grill in the middle of the restaurant.  after our leisurely lunch, we made our way to the Montreal Museum of Fine Art to see the new Jean Paul Gaultier exhibit.  I’d read about it in the June issue of Vogue and couldn’t resist seeing such an amazing display so close to my home.  (I took over 250 pictures of the amazing displays and will have those up later in the week after I go through them a bit.)  after only a little bit of walking in my new Urban Outfitter’s wedges, the strap snapped.  I would’ve been much more angry if I hadn’t gotten them on clearance for $20 and was walking anywhere else but back to the car.  when we tried to leave the city, we got lost in its maze of one-way streets and rush hour traffic, but it was a great opportunity to see a bit more of the city.  we made it back to Vermont in time for a late dinner at Jeff’s Maine Seafood Restaurant in St Alban’s.  it’s known for its delicious take on fresh seafood, and we weren’t disappointed.  I was adventurous and tried the Cajun seafood stew.  while I wasn’t sure how I’d handle the mixture of mussels, clams, and shrimp in a spicy broth, I really liked stepping outside of my comfort zone.

here’s a quick view of my day of food, fashion, and family roadtrips as seen by my iPhone.
