in living color

November 22, 2011

maybe it’s because I spent most of November touring through the major art exhibits in Europe, but I’ve been feeling really inspired by the color and composition of paintings.

on J. Crew’s blog, 770 Behind the Line, they did a fabulous post about how they drew from the palettes of specific paintings while styling their recent catalog.  I love seeing their process alongside the final product.

when I was in Amsterdam, I spent a long time looking at Vermeer’s The Milkmaid (1658).  I think that the maid’s goldenrod and blue ensemble would fit in perfectly with the rest of J. Crew’s color palette (the colors are much more vibrant in person).
